KOPS (Keeping Older People Safe) is our ongoing programme providing community safety advice and support to older people across North East Lincolnshire in partnership with others. The KOPS programme has been running for many years now and brings together Capacity Buildings, VANEL and previously Big Local North Cleethorpes, along with funding that has come from various sources including Big Local, local Ward Councillors, National Lottery, the Police and Crime Commissioner and so on.
Supporting our KOPS programme for 2025-2026 is the Keeping Older People Safe and Well project. This project has been funded through the East Coast Community Fund from Ørsted and runs from Nov25-Oct26.
Thank you to the East Coast Community Fund for supporting KOPS.
The project is based from the community hub at 82 Grimsby Road and provides a safe space for older people to undertake social activities which include quiz sessions, events, crafts, model-making, painting, chair-based exercise classes, ancestry research and more. Throughout this, visitors are encouraged to receive community safety advice for example avoidance of scams and are advised on where to get the right support.
Capacity Buildings will be working with VANEL and the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams. We will encourage volunteering where appropriate. And throughout we’ll be providing support services both at the hub and out in the community to ensure as many older residents as possible get support around community safety.
Just some of our activities we’ve been undertaking:
A wide range of social activities and groups from the community hub…

Regular Police/Community Safety drop-ins at the hub…

Scam talks out in the community…
Community Safety related events…

Preparing newsletters and information for residents…

Working with local Neighbourhood Watch Groups to support any local member residents with community safety…
and much more.
For information about the project, speak to Paula or Karl at Capacity Buildings.
