The Reclaim Urban Arts Festival has been running in Cleethorpes for a number of years now – all managed and led by local artist Lynsey Powles. The festival largely centres around Cleethorpes Leisure Centre, so in 2022, Big Local North Cleethorpes provided sponsorship to Lyns to add a “North Cleethorpes Fringe” component to the festival to ensure that people in North Cleethorpes had their own, local part to the event.
For 2023 Capacity Buildings Ltd obtained some funding from the Office of the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC), Community Safety Fund (CSF) to further support this North Cleethorpes Fringe component of the event (£3000). Big Local North Cleethorpes once again provided further match funding (£5000) to support Lyns and her Festival.
The CSF funding focused on allowing CBL staff to engage with local organisations and businesses in North Cleethorpes to get them ‘connected’ to the North Cleethorpes part of the Festival, and more specifically allowed Lyns to extend the duration and reach of the event by providing a number of workshops directly for local young people to get them engaging with arts.
CBL (and of course Lynsey Powles) are grateful to the OPCC and Big Local for the funding for the event and the workshops.
The Festival itself took place in August 2023.
Four pieces of new artwork were commissioned through the Big Local funding from local artists and representing local North Cleethorpes themes.
Two new pieces of urban wall art were also commissioned which will be longer lasting for the community.
Three art workshops for young people were held in the Community Shed at the rear of 82 Grimsby Road during August and September 2023 thanks to the CSF funding. Further community art workshops for young people were held during Sept/Oct 2023 around the area.

Please note that the overall Reclaim Festival was organised by Lynsey Powles, not by Capacity Buildings Ltd and the funders below were not the only supporters or funders for the festival. But the project delivered by Capacity Buildings Ltd to ensure that the North Prom part of the Festival and the children’s art workshops took place was supported by the following funders.
