Capacity Buildings Ltd has for many years provided support around community safety, community resilience, scams and fraud awareness and other issues and much of this has been targeted through our ongoing KOPS (Keeping Older People Safe) programme. You can read more about this here.
Work on KOPS, whilst ongoing, does require ongoing funding too. We’re grateful to all our past and present funders but we’d like this work to continue longer term. This year we’ve partnered with Co-Op and their Local Community Fund to see if we can gather some more funding. We’d love you to vote for our cause.
Through the Co-op members vote on local causes they’d like to support – and we’re really keen for people to support us.
Our local cause page can be found on the Coop website here:
(We’re local cause 102508)
You have to be a Co-op member to vote – but it only costs £1 to join if you’re not already a member.
If you can, and are able to, please take a look and pop us a vote! Every little helps.
And here’s more about what we’ve said about our cause…

We would like to deliver community safety sessions for vulnerable people in rural communities, helping them avoid fraud and scams, reduce anxiety and feel safer and more confident.
Our overall goal is to support individuals and small community groups to build confidence, skills and resilience. We provide personal coaching, practical support and social action projects that respond to local needs identified by residents. Our work helps people overcome challenges, improve their knowledge of local issues and develop the skills needed to make positive changes in their communities. To achieve this, we offer tailored briefings, practical learning opportunities and online training that enable individuals and groups to address local challenges, make informed decisions and become more resilient in the future.
Our community safety briefings will reduce the fear of crime linked to online fraud and doorstep scams. The project will reach out to small isolated social groups to show them how to avoid losing money and keep them and their possessions safe. Using practical examples and easy-to-follow advice in printed and audio formats, our experienced community safety development worker will reassure residents. The sessions will include discussion to increase people’s knowledge and confidence about how to identify and deal with potential fraud and scams. This approach will help improve people’s wellbeing by reducing anxiety, learning who to contact for advice, and enabling people to feel safer in their homes and local communities.
